Avoid Making This Mistake With Your Vision
May 20, 2020Stop overthinking it.
You are probably thinking well that’s nice. How exactly do you do that?
Well, what we mean is to take the pressure off yourself. Once the focus turns outward instead of inward, the answers show up. So instead of focusing on a daunting task of trying to squeeze your life vision into a sentence…start by deciding on the direction you want to move towards.
For example, our brand vision began because we decided it was our purpose to help. So every single thing we do is now based on that. Is what we are doing today helping someone? Can this post help someone? Is this email helpful to someone?
It turns out that this one-word “help” got weaved into our brand, our vision, our direction, our purpose, and our lives. Yes, the branding evolves and our direction grows. Although the point here is, this started because of one single word that gave us a feeling, this feeling turned into a motivating drive behind why we do what we do.
The key is to focus on what feeling is driving you. Because that feeling is going to be what keeps you going on the rough days. It will be what motivates you to move instead of quit.
So, we have two questions for you that will help to narrow down your vision by focusing on the feeling within your purpose.
1 - What excites you most in your day to day life?
Maybe it is building relationships in sales, maybe it's teaching someone a skill or maybe it’s weaving in something creative through your work. This answer is going to be completely unique to you. The fun part is this might be something completely new to you or it might be a simple term that you are already familiar with.
2 - What difference do you want to make in the world?
This is that part where you flip the narrative from you to the outside world. You are going to think about how to make the footprint left on this planet a positive one. The key to this question isn’t some MASSIVE answer. It’s determining the small impact that can be made one step at a time, one day at a time.
These two questions will help to simplify your vision. Remember the goal is to narrow down your direction. Whatever you brainstorm just start working towards that direction. Sometimes we become fixated on the goal and the plan, that we forget to start taking action.
The action is where the magic happens. It’s what helps to grow your vision. It is what allows you to make the moves, the mistakes, and the wins that change who you are as a person and who you show up as to the rest of the world.
